What we’re covering

• At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured when a pickup truck plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early New Year’s Day in what the FBI called an “act of terrorism.” Authorities believe the driver wasn’t “solely responsible.”

• The suspect’s vehicle was rented through Turo, the company said. And it appears that explosive devices associated with the attack were made at an Airbnb that was rented out “for that purpose,” Louisiana’s attorney general told NBC.

• The attack in the French Quarter happened less than a mile from wherethe Sugar Bowl was to be hosted hours later, prompting a postponement of the annual college football game to 4 p.m. ET today.
